Citizens National Bank in Cheboygan is being honored by the Michigan Bankers Association for their financial literacy efforts. They will receive their 2011 Financial Literacy Award during their region’s MBA Group Meeting June 1 at Sweetgrass Golf Course in Harris.
This award is given to banks making the greatest efforts to educate their community on financial literacy.
Citizens National Bank’s employees gave a tour of the bank to elementary students and day care centers. They were shown all departments from bookkeeping to processing to lending and being a teller.
Bank employees also worked with local area high school students covering how to construct a business plan and explaining the mortgage process from beginning to end.
The lack of financial literacy contributes directly to poor credit and can place individuals at a higher risk for crimes such as identity theft.
