LANSING – Doug Chaffin, president and CEO of Monroe Bank & Trust in Monroe, has been named 2011 Michigan Bankers Association (MBA) Banker of the Year by the Board of Trustees of the association’s Robert M. Perry Schools of Banking.
Each year a banker is selected for this distinguished award based on their contribution to their bank, commitment to the MBA, service to other banks and a strong record of community service.
“Doug Chaffin’s dedication to his community, the banking industry and the MBA is unparalleled,” said Dennis Koons, president and CEO of Michigan Bankers Association. “His commitment to financial literacy has educated hundreds of children and afforded families and the elderly the money management skills they need to take control of their personal finances. There is no one more deserving of this distinction.”
Chaffin will be honored at the MBA Banker of the Year Reception at the Perry School of Banking on the campus of Central Michigan University and at the MBA Annual Convention in June.
At Monroe Bank & Trust, Chaffin is responsible for all aspects of the bank’s performance. He has been with the bank since 2001, assuming the role of CEO in 2004. Prior to joining Monroe Bank & Trust, Chaffin held executive positions with Huntington National Bank and First Michigan Bank Corporation in western Michigan.
Chaffin is involved in his community and has served on boards for the Monroe County Industrial Development Corporation, City of Monroe Downtown Development Authority, The Foundation at Monroe County Community College and the Board of Mercy Memorial Hospital System.
He is a graduate of Indiana University.
