March 15, 2012, is the compliance date for existing ATMs to meet the new Americans with Disability Act accessibility standards published in the Sept. 15 Federal Register. The compliance date applicable to ATM accessibility had not been clear, despite publication of the final regulations. Banks will not be required to replace keyboards that do not meet new requirements for a specific tactilely discernable symbol on the “back” function key.
