Advocacy
The MBA is the primary public voice of the banking industry in Michigan. We represent
the industry’s interests in the state legislatures, federal legislatures, courts,
regulatory arena, media and the general public. We work closely with our volunteer
committee members and the general membership to pursue policies that create a positive
business environment for our banks and promote strong communities in Michigan.

Wanted: Banks to Host Grassroots Meetings
The MBA is seeking member banks to host grassroots meetings at their bank (or a location in their
legislative district) with State Representatives, State Senators, or members of the Michigan
Congressional Delegation. Grassroots meetings typically include the host bank President/CEO
along with bank directors/bank management personnel (5-10 bankers). An MBA Advocacy staff member
will attend and provide discussion topics, which have recently included: economic recovery,
competition from tax-exempt, new breed credit unions, regulatory reform, and a legislative
update from the legislator(s). These meetings typically last between 1-2 hours. For more

The MBA would like to thank the bankers who participated in the MBA grassroots meeting on
Wednesday, February 13 with State Representatives Barb Byrum and Mark Meadows. Attending
